No receipts or check cashing yet
Hi,
My application reached NSC on july 2nd 10.25 am & the LUD on my I-140 was changed on July 28th still no receipt notice or the cheque got cashed. No idea whatz going????
So I guess the LUD change is nothing relevant to I-485 filing.

Lets put it this way.
If you already have an H1B and are using your ead just as a back up, then no, you do not have to renew right away, you can re-apply as long as you have copies of your applied I-485 etc.
If you do not have an H1B but you also do not plan to work for a while (in the case of some dependants), then again, NO you do not need to renew right away.
However if the EAD is your PRIMARY document without which you cannot work, but you DO want to work, then YES you do want to renew it before the current ead expires.

No, a Canadian citizen cannot work in the US without a Visa. The options available are TN (Treaty Nafta) visa and H1-B for the average skilled worker. We (Canadians) are in the same boat with the Indians, Chinese, etc. awaiting our priority dates to become current. Mine is 01/11/02 so I have some hope that it will become current in the next year. Until then, I have to pay a premium for property taxes (no homestead exemption) on Florida's east coast.
Hopefully (wishful thinking here) CIR will move forward in the House. At the very least I would like to see family members exempt from the EB Visa count.

this was known all along (maybe not in as much detail as shown by your post) and people still decided to vote the republicans. I am not surprised though because these were the same people who voted Bush for the 2nd term and the reason for voting Bush was that they thought he was the better guy to go out and have beer with!

You are not suppossed to submit the i-94 which you received along with 797. Submit only the POE i-94.
It was told by Officer when i had a issue with the visa date not mentioned in the i-94 during re-entry.

Hello,
My brother-in-law and sister are both Indian Doctors, having a private practice in INDIA. They would like to apply for visitor's visa.
Any suggestion about the problems they may encounter? Do they have to go on two differrent dates for getting the visa stampped at Chennai?

The chances to get visa is 1% as they know why they come here even though you say that they come here for visiting.The documentation is same as for B2 visa.

Report indicates that Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will meet with President Barack Obama this afternoon to talk about the chances of getting comprehensive immigration reform or the DREAM Act passed in the lame duck session, signaling the Democrats, Hispanics, and Obama turning their posture in CIR or DREAM from "defensive" to "offensive" strategy, by going forward with the all-court pressing DREAM or CIR during the Lame Duck session. For this apparent strategy, time is indeed short and running out. There was also report that the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could bring the DREAM Act to the floor as early as this week. This strategy will push and corner Republicans to the "defensive" position in connection with the 2012 Presidential and another national election. For this matter, the Democrats have nothing to lose by pushing for DREAM or CIR during this Lame Duck session while they are in a majority position. Failure to pass the DREAM Act during the Lame Duck session will be placed on the Republicans, which are likely to bring about some Republican casualties and political liabilities in 2012 election. From the perspecitives of the DREAM activists, this is indeed considered a last chance and they are taking an aggressive position to take advantage of such political strategy of the Democrats. My view is immigration intent part will not impact much. Just it is giving more power to consulate. Consulate may reject some candidates who are not having strong job offers. It is similar to F1 visa. But nowadays F1 visa rejections are very less compared to past

I'm trying to get my SSN Done. I'm on a dependent H4 Visa and have my H1 approval .
I visited the SSN office with My I797, State ID and Passport : SSN officer straightforwardly rejected as I dont have my EAD card.
The Officer asked me to visit USCIS office to apply for EAD.
Please help me with this situation..Does a H1 get an EAD and then a SSN?

Ap received on Jan 9
Total : 3 weeks
Paper filing works better for AP at TSC.
( I had a bad experience when I E-filed at TSC last time.)

hopefulgc - I can understand where you are coming from. Billions of people are excited by the fact that President Barack Obama has made history and for some reason - people are under the impression that "He is the guy next door" who can make wonders.
Remember - a politician is always a politician. Politicians who come to power through mass have a certain charisma and aura around them which blinds us of the fact that they are also just another politician.
Now - We all know and are definitely excited about Obama and we definitely want to see a change. Change will come, but we have to remember that this is just the beginning. Nothing happens overnight.
Almost all my personal friends waiting for GC now think they will all get their GC because of Obama. Students think they will get GC stapled to their diplomas and this goes on.
Things will definitely improve and we all have to work hard. This government will definitely hear our side - and make decisions keeping us in mind.
